Mini Laptops – Should You Consider Them?
By Kim Meehan

mini laptops
I don’t know about any of you but going down to my local Future Shop and Best Buy I’ve noticed a trend for the past year or two – Laptop and notebooks have shrunken in size and seem to be getting smaller and smaller. These micro machines look very appealing and for some strange reason having 2 regular sized laptops in my house I can only dream of having another lying around.
The question is should or shouldn’t I? Well looking at these mini laptops with screen real estate ranging from 6 inches to 10 inches I know screen size was not the number one priority in purchasing a laptop and if anything the point of these laptops are the smaller the better. The next thing to look at is the OS and the amount of connections and inputs you can use. The more USB, card slots external monitor connections the better without compromising the portability of the unit. The funny thing about these laptops is how the manufacturers try to highlight the features of these units beyond what they are really intended for… I love how they make 1 gig of ram that fit in such a tiny PC amazing. It’s 1 gig… that might not even be enough to start up Windows Vista let alone your other apps.
But lets put these PC’s into perspective… You are buying this unit not as a power user, so all those honky dory specks about using them for intense graphics, multimedia and such so forget about it… you are solely buying this computer as a portable internet, email and chat machine. I’d say its perfect for word-processing but with the tiny screen even people with the best eye sight might need help after awhile…
So the main question is do you travel a lot? You don’t really need a machine other than for internet and email usage if so I’d say then yes this would be a great addition to you collection of technology you may or may not use. Believe me I have two laptops and I don’t really travel but the novelty is so cool I might have to bring one home to keep the other two company, they say three’s a crowd but the don’t talk much anyways
